For those of us who won't make it
what the hell we came so close
it was only ever going to be
just another year in any case
as soon as it's gone
everyone'll get back to bitching anyway
it's not worth hanging out for years
for just one stupid hangover
and bullshit that there's only been 2000 years
it's time we had a real calendar
that goes back to Ancient Africa
and recognises all of it
what a big deal they'll make that night
as if we'd somehow lived that long
and the funny thing is
the real year will be about
five billion
nine hundred million
ten thousand three hundred
and twenty one.
