      SEEKING SOLITUDE

      I seek solitude,
wanting only to hear the music
of the rain and Janis singing back-up,
      echoing melancholy that I feel
      with every breath taken.
I seek the inner sanctuary of my mind,
an abyss where focus becomes primary,
where I can dance with Capt. Morgan
and the Red Dog, where I can
find a little girl and her imaginary
      friends sipping tea
      (I'm invited to join them),
and I can dream once again of
flying with the birds astride my
sturdy steed, find hope in the
evening star with just one wish,
where a salt breeze transports me
to other lands and new adventures
and happiness is found with the
      turn of a card.
I seek the peace found in losing
myself in the flame of a candle as
the wind caresses it, where the
beat of music takes me time-traveling
to an earlier time and simple people,
where the ocean and the world are
mine for the taking - I prefer to watch
it evolve - where sleep comes easily,
      quietly
and each new day brings the promise
      of renewed passion and interminable
      pleasures.
I seek it all, one more time, for just
a brief second, lying in your arms.

      LOVE AND DESIRE

      Lessons learned early,
      Of trust and truth,
      Vicious streaks and
      Envious demons found

      Abruptly in another's
      Niceties.
      Deceit rages rampantly, the

      Devil turning friendships into
      Egotistical adventures of
      Sex and hatred, the
      Inability to discern
      Right from wrong,
      Especially when faced

      With immediate self-gratification.
      And through experience
      Life tosses those rare morsels
Known to few as true friendship,

      Handing us an opportunity,
A chance to grow and love,
      New journeys into the heart,
      Delving into the soul,

      Impropriety tossed aside,
Nodding as love and desire walk

      Hand in hand with trust
      And friendship, a commonality
None but a select few will
Discern and grasp hold of - forever.
