      Tanka 2

      Pas de Deux

      Low blue waves layer,
      lift, balance, turning step back,
      the Adagio.
Gold cliffs rise in even steps
      for two at ease, adjacent,

      Real

      Thirds, sixths inverted
ring in octaves, ice on brass,
      on stone at midnight.
Rock chimes mark the Hour of Grave,
      angel bells ethereal.

      Tanka 3

      (i)
      Leather boots, tartan
      skirt, drape of cape, vermilion
      hold his unbelief.
      Poise of carriage carries her,
      virgin oil, a first pressing.

      (ii)
      Staircase, verandah,
      carriageway, orchard, paddock,
      sea of emerald.
      Equinoctial tides, aqua
      terraces:        the Goddess walks.

      (iii)
      From rimu woodgrain,
      railings, columns, newel posts
      amber blanches, fades.
      At the turnings mist conceals
      an edge above the abyss.
