      THE DEEP END

      You,
      in the chlorinated cement sea
      on a summers' day,
      sun shimmering water
      ripples
and you, head first into the deep end
      deep down, far below
      casting shadows on the bottom,
while I paddle in the shallows

      You,
      in the cement city
      on a winters' day,
      brushing grey clouds
      away

      with your angel winged coat
      deep down, far above
      headlong into the crowds,
while I stone skim the surface.

      You,
      in the darkest corner
      on a dusky night,
      making fireworks
      from

      proud, brave words bubbling above
      deep down, far away
all heads are raised and listening
while I hold my breath underwater.
      Even my deep is shallow.

      BEGINNINGS

      Let the end begin
      and the merry-go-round end.
      Let the artifacts
      gather dust in my
      minds museum.

      You have seduced me,
      and the tide, now
      refusing to turn,
      leaves my soul's ship
      grounded,
      on the rocks
      in eternity.

      FOOL'S GOLD

      I waited,
      and watched and stalked
      my prey,
      with the seductress mask
      of paint and perfume -
      jewelled beads and sexy lingerie.

      Only to find,
      you were my fool's gold
      and I had dredged the

      river dry
      in my fever,
      ending up with a handful
      of silt and stone in
      sufference.
