ADRIAN MANNING
Poem
I pull back the sheets
I pull back the sheets
like peeling the skin from a fruit
to find you naked
your tender hidden flesh
and you are wanting to be loved
and it is my luck that you want
to be loved by me
and to love me in return
so I climb in
dirty and sweating from
a job I hate
and a world I distrust
and you are so clean
your skin so smooth
and my three day beard so rough
but still you pull me in
the door is locked
the curtains drawn
the people outside
finally disappear
and it feels so good
and after a while
the bombs explode
and nothing else matters
