      STAND WHERE YOU BELONG

      (for Wanaka)

      the town is raped
      they have stolen from her
what was not theirs to take

      and leave behind a place
      that will always cry
      when you are close

      they leave
      the memory
      of a simpler time

      the town is still wanaka
      her lake long-stretching
      horizon-melting

      her mountains
      sky-wearing
      heaven-piercing

      her waves
      gentle-nudging
      fresh-lapping

      her people
      spirited
      strong-blooded

      she gives you
      her mana, yet
      you leave?

      DOESN'T ADD UP

      will you marry me
      doesn't always add up
      to one

      will you keep me warm
      doesn't always add up
      to keeping out the cold

      dancing eyes
      don't always add up
      to a merry heart

      searching prayers
      don't always add up
      to a soul found

      please
      doesn't always add up
      to thank you

      my life lived with you
      doesn't always add up
      to forever

      my life lived with you
      hasn't added up
      to forever
